Frequently Asked Questions
Riff provides ambiance to the scene, other narrators contribute their own parts,
and Canon writes the permanent record of what took place. It's a cast with distinct
jobs, not one assistant answering prompts.
No, Sentient Horizon isn't a fixed script. When you start the demo, you can choose: jump into
"Play as Splat," a ready-made scenario, or "Write your own story" and begin with nothing but your
own opening line. Either way, once you're in a story, you're free to pivot, improvise, and steer
events in a completely different direction than however it started; that kind of narrative
freedom is the whole point of collaborative AI storytelling.
What is not currently supported is switching from one populated scenario to a different one
mid-session. That's a rougher edge today and may not work reliably. If you want to try a
different scenario, the best path is to register and start a fresh game rather than trying to
pivot an existing one.
Yes it is currently free to play. Right now, play is supported directly by the
developer's own generosity, and tables are admitted on the basis of that support
being available. Write admin@eggnine.com to discuss arrangements for your table.
No, and that's deliberate. Nothing here gets regenerated or walked back
that's what makes a choice matter.
No dice or rulebooks required — but strong role-play has real influence over
success, and chance often plays a part too. Some rules can be set during world
setup, and you bring as much design to the world as our cast of narrators generates.
No. Visiting the site and playing the demo does not require registering an account, but it
is limited (fifty turns, limited text input size). When you accept the Terms of Service and
other polices you'll be given a guest session automatically. Guest sessions are temporary
and cleaned up periodically when unused. If you want your story to stick around, you can
export it when you reach the end (fifty turn limit). If you want access to additional
features like multiplayer, favor, perks, and extended gameplay, registration will provide
access to that.
Both are supported. Solo gameplay is just you and the AI narrators. There is no waiting on anyone
else. Multiplayer sessions let a group (up to six) share the same evolving story together, with the
narrators coordinating between all of you.
Your messages go to Anthropic's Claude models to generate the story you're playing. That is core
to how the narration works. Other players in your own game can see what you write there, all aspects
of the story are shared. For the full picture on data handling and how content may be used, see the
Privacy Policy and the AI Usage and Content Disclosure.
Sentient Horizon currently uses Anthropic's Claude models to power the narrators (Riff, Canon,
and others) that respond to what you write. This may change over time as the platform evolves, so
check back periodically for updates.
No, Sentient Horizon is not in a finished state. Current play is supported by
the developer directly; open free play and pay-to-play are planned for a future
version, one of many planned features. RCSH will be growing for years to come.
It is currently in "Alpha", an early stage of development. That means bugs,
incomplete systems, and rough edges are expected, and things may change frequently
as we keep building. See the Alpha Release Notice for more details, and feel
free to send feedback to alpha@eggnine.com.
Two options: Protective Mode, where your character stays with the party and
participates at a minimum required level (follows the party, defends themself,
avoids dialogue or decisive action) or write an exit for your character and let
the game continue without them. Rejoining later, as the same character or a
different one, stays open.
